St. Kathrein in Hafling

The legendary mountain church on the high plateau of Hafling offers fantastic views of the wintry Merano region.
Like many other mountain churches in South Tyrol, the St. Kathrein church in Hafling was built on a site that was originally a pagan place of worship. A prehistoric place of worship is said to have stood on the site where the little church stands today.

There was probably already a small church there in the 12th century, which was burnt down in 1202 and was rebuilt and re-consecrated in 1452. The late Gothic winged altar is a valuable ornament of the St. Kathrein church in Hafling.
You can reach the church of St. Kathrein in just a few minutes by car.
