THE KIENDL HUT

Our mountain hut at 2,060 m

The Kiendl Alm - our retreat - lies at an altitude of 2,060 metres at the foot of the Ifinger.

For many years, the Kiendl Alm was the summer retreat of our ancestors. In the 1950s, the alp from Kiendl in the Naiftal valley via the ‘Gsteier’ mountain farms could only be reached on foot in several hours. Back then, children had to walk over 1,400 metres in altitude accompanied by a dairymaid for their summer holiday. The backpacks only contained the bare essentials needed for the summer on the mountain pasture. The construction of the Ifinger cable car in 1968 was an important milestone for the accessibility of the Merano 2000 hiking and skiing area and the Kiendl Alm.

In 1998, the Kiendl Alm was renovated for the first time: a new roof truss was built where the wind used to whistle through the gaps in the wood, and there was now hot water as well as cold running water. Several wood-burning stoves provid cosy warmth and the Alm can now also be inhabited in winter: Ski in & ski out for our winter guests - directly on the Oswald piste.

BACK THEN AND NOW

surrounded by high alpine nature

In the summer of 2022, we dried out the walls that had become damp from the meltwater and optimized the technology for heating and hot water production. Now you can feel a pleasant warmth as soon as you enter the hut. Our attention on the mountain can be drawn to what is true and important: the perception of alpine nature, the feeling of the elements in their archaic form: the pure air, the fresh spring water at the mountain stream, the blooming meadows in summer, the crunching snow in winter.

LUXURY CAN BE FOUND IN THE SIMPLEST THINGS

Time spent with the people we love

Up here, we consciously renounce television and the internet and realize that the really important things are not hidden in a square box. Here we swap the screen for board and card games and spend time with loved ones. The children search for colorful stones in the mountain stream, watch the cows graze in the summer meadows, build a snow igloo in winter. They play with whatever can be found in nature and we spend time together. Just like in the old days, when there was no social media...

For nature lovers, the area around the Kiendl Alm offers a variety of hiking trails that lead through unspoiled nature and offer spectacular views. Guests can also take part in guided excursions that provide insights into the flora and fauna of the region. In winter, in addition to skiing, one can enjoy snowshoeing as well as downhill sledding.
